The Journey of Mo Slicks
The Journey of Mo Slicks
My drumming journey began at an early age. By the age of three, I was already playing a full drum kit, and at just four years old I began performing in front of live audiences at prestigious venues including the Royal Albert Hall and the Royal Festival Hall. Growing up playing in church, I performed regularly every Sunday from the age of nine. It was within this space that I developed a deep passion for rhythm and melody, learning how to channel emotion, feel, and vulnerability into my playing — foundations that continue to shape my musical identity. In 2003 and 2004, I performed at the Wandsworth Children’s Music Festival, which led to an invitation to join the Royal College of Music Junior Department. Over four years, I gained invaluable experience performing in orchestras and a jazz band under the direction of renowned UK saxophonist Mornington Lockett. After leaving the RCM, I continued my musical development at the Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM) between 2010 and 2012, earning both a Diploma and Higher Diploma in Drum Performance. During my time at ACM, I embraced every opportunity to collaborate with musicians from a wide range of backgrounds, further developing my versatility and musical voice.
